On Hyphenated People

One key plank in any political struggle is the control over the meaning of words and narrative, this is a skill so expertly mastered by the enemies of our Commonwealth. By consequence of this, our enemies have shaped the framework around which any issue is discussed. As Syme, in Orwell’s 1984 explains “Don’t you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it. ”

The “hyphenation” of ethnic groups is one of those key weapons in the word-warfare of the enemy, expressions like “Chinese-Australian” “African-Australian” or even “White-Australian” concedes the premise that Australian identity is meaningless, and there is, an ability to have a form of Australian that is not a member of the founding-stock (and by that, we mean European, principally British) and native born.

People even with patriotic sympathies are too quick to concede this defeat, to reject the unique ethnocultural genesis of the Australian people by, through the use of the enemies’ dictionary, tacitly concede there can be other kinds of Australian through the use of a hyphen. Those advocating for “White Australians” or “British Australians” too have made this tacit admission. All Nationalists should, if you excuse the irony, advocate for “Australian Australians”, who are a distinct ethnic group of a distinct racial, cultural, religious, social and political heritage. You cannot simply land upon this country and identify as an Australian nor can any piece of paper make you an Australian. In the minds of all people around the world, one cannot think of an “Australian” without simultaneously envisaging in their mind a European-descent person, born to this country, of a distinct cultural and ethnic identity.

Some time ago, a member of the ANA wrote his personal story about coming to grips with naturalisation by “dropping the hyphen” in which in his personal view, it was the cultural cringe that caused himself, and presumably many other continental European-stock people to fail to become naturalised to the Australian nation, much like today, in a highly diverse and cosmopolitan metropolis (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane etc) a child of founding stock Australia by descent, may still find himself culturally uprooted and cultivated in a nursery bed of internationalist (predominantly American) media, culture and belief systems which are alien to and harmful to our people.

By virtue of the lack of public-facing, proud Australian cultural development through literature, music and art; the rootless cosmopolitan will, short of receiving a good education, seek after authentic culture and identity, which, by virtue of time and scale is naturally that of their ancestral homeland be it England or Hungary. The persistent assault on Australia as a unique ethnic and cultural group (both overtly and tacitly) continue to diminish any chances for genuine naturalisation of European migrants in this country, and this is through no fault of their own in many cases but may be laid at the feet of the media and academic complex that suffer from significant cultural cringe.

The ANA regularly in its publications features Australian history, art, music and literature which has no overt political message or theme. We have received complaints that some of our material “has nothing to do with nationalism” or immigration policy at large, and this may be true. One of our primary objectives is the advancement of, propagation of and development of Australian culture, as the torchbearers of the founding stock of this country we have no interest in abandoning our heritage and importing our collective psyche from America or anywhere else for that matter. We are proud of the best parts of our heritage and believe people of Australian stock should share in that. We hope that by increasing awareness of the beauty and depth of our national heritage, more people would stand up and defend it.

If there is no art, music, literature and history – there is no culture. If there is no culture, there is no nation. If anyone can be an Australian, the word has become meaningless.
